In 86400, two forms of time meet in a reversal of roles: the ticking of the clock becomes a symbol,  the background noises an index of a past day. A single speaker plays a continuous, unedited 24-hour recording on an endless loop. The ticking feels like a promise of order, even though it shows nothing and measures nothing here. Recorded past time thus appears as presence in the room, without becoming present again.
